Once upon a time I was a writer……

I’ve always been enchanted by books.  When I was a little girl, my imagination was captured when I read my first book and has held me captive ever since.  The Wizard of Oz, Charlotte’s Web, The Chronicles of Narnia and so many more. They have been my lifelong friends, my companions on this journey called life.

As I got older, I read more and more. I was insatiable. I devoured books like candy. I couldn’t get enough. That insatiability grew into a passion for writing. Writing opened up a whole new world of imagination for me. A place I didn’t know existed. A place of endless possibilities. And once again, I was smitten.

But I actually became a writer by accident. It was the 80’s and I was just 11 years old.  I had just finished reading a popular book. The book ended with a crushing anti-climax, and I was devastated.  I was on an airplane flying to Colorado.  I will never forget how I was 40,000 feet up in the sky and dug out a pen and notebook out of my bag and wrote my version of the end of the story. It was scribbled out in an emotional frenzy. When I was finished, I read it to myself and let out a satisfied breath. I had created an ending that worked. At that moment I knew. I was a writer. I had gotten my first taste, and it was in my blood.

I sit at my computer now, and I write. Weaving dreams into stories. Nothing gives me more joy in this world than that. But I know I have big shoes to fill. With authors like Daphne Du Maurier, C.S. Lewis, Emily Bronte, and so many more as my idols….how could I ever live up to my own expectations?

But I will keep on. I will keep writing because it is my lifeline to joy. And the greater joy than that? Are you, my readers. The joy that my books bring you will keep me moving forward and striving to continue to bring you characters that you will love and never forget. Exciting and endearing stories that will maybe touch you in a way that just because you read it, your life is a little bit better.

Because that is my wish. To touch each life, I encounter. Through my words, through my actions, and through my love.

Isn’t that something we should all strive toward?

Until next time my readers, my friends.

I will be writing….

A day in the life of a writer…..

So you think it’s all glitz and glam being a writer? Not so much. When you peel back the pages of the book called “MY LIFE” you see a person just like you. Doing dishes, washing clothes, vacuuming, paying bills.

Yep, that’s me. Doing the real world stuff and trying to find a time to escape and write.

Ahhhh yes, I said escape. I become my characters. I live in their world. Even for just a short period of time.  I sit down in front of my computer and poof..I’m gone!  I will admit, it is a little bit like magic.

And I hope when you open the cover and read the first page of one of my novels that you will feel the magic too.

Don’t we all need that…a little escape?
